AAOIC provides a stable, affordable source of professional liability insurance for members of the AAO who practice in the United States. AAOIC is the only professional liability insurance program endorsed by the AAO.

AAOIC is wholly owned by its policyholders, who are also its shareholders. The Company is managed by a Board of Directors comprised mostly of orthodontists, several of whom are former Presidents of the Association. AAO Services, Inc. (AAOSI) provides AAOIC with a staff of talented insurance professionals. AAOIC’s marketing and new business processing is handled by Affinity Insurance Services, Inc., a division of AON, in Hatboro, PA.

AAOIC will not settle any claim without your consent.

All claims over $200,000 are reinsured by three insurance companies rated A+ (Superior) by A.M. Best & Company. You can rest assured AAOIC will be here for the long haul.

Unlike some other insurance companies, AAOIC offers both Occurrence and Claims-Made coverage. AAO members choosing the Claims-Made option are eligible for a free extended reporting period (“tail” coverage) upon death or permanent total disability at any age and upon retirement if they have been continuously insured in the AAOIC program for at least four years and are at least age 50. Coverage limits are available from $1,000,000 to $5,000,000 per claim and $3,000,000 to $7,500,000 annual aggregate. AAOIC coverage also coordinates with coverage in patient compensation states. Premium discounts are available for part-time practitioners, recent graduates and first time buyers. A premium discount is also available after completion of an AAOIC sponsored risk management course.
